Reading Between the Pictures: Graphic Novels, the Internet, and Your Library

You want to put what in your library? Graphic novels are becoming increasingly popular in libraries, whether it's the appeal to a wide number of readers (reluctant and otherwise), their practical use with ESL library users, or the increasingly sophisticated visual literacy and diverse content. Come explore internet resources for an overview of genres and current titles, collection development and other practical library issues. During this session, participants will:

  • assemble a proposal for a graphic novel collection
  • discuss cataloguing and collection maintenance issues
  • explore and evaluate online selection tools
  • explore current titles through reviews, booklists, and hands-on browsing
