Helping Students Evaluate Information from the Internet

"The truth is out there!" But, it is hard to separate fact from fiction on the Web. This workshop will use a current event to assess the validity of information found on the Internet. The format used can be easily adapted for students in any grade level or curricular area. The workshop will end with an opportunity for participants to develop their own lesson based on this format. In this session participants will learn strategies to:

  • establish the authorship of a web site
  • reveal the location of a web site
  • determine the validity of the information on a web site
  • ascertain the currency of information
  • examine other sources

Participants with also develop a similar assignment for their own students.
