Web Sites for Schools

Many schools have launched their own web sites, yet educational literature often comments on the lack of quality content on school web pages and sites. What should be on your site? How can you create administrative information, communication avenues, curricular materials, and student projects so they are balanced throughout your site? What about student safety and copyright? How can you keep it maintained? With a few design, maintenance and content guidelines you can create an excellent school site and this workshop will show you how. In this session you will:

  • consider general web site design principles
  • analyze what should be on your school site
  • cover basic guidelines for your school pages
  • examine who could/should be responsible for what on the site
  • evaluate your maintenance needs and abilities
  • consider how student web teams can help with the site
  • look at practical ways of managing potential problem areas for school sites such as student safety, liability and copyright

Participants in this session can use their own school sites as they work through excercises and planning sheets during this workshop.
