Managing your Web Site

This session covers the practical aspects of managing your Web site on a daily basis. It covers principles of Information Architecture for the Web including Web site organization, methods of structuring for ease of maintenance, and the basics of good interface design. This session will consider the value of statistics and the importance of a maintenance schedule in web site management. The goal of this session is to assist participants in creating a solid strategy for handling common issues in web site management. During this session participants will:

  • examine organizational methods and the pros and cons of different Web structures
  • analyze how your Web structure impacts your URLs, maintenance, and your Search Engine indexing
  • consider methods of effectively handling restructuring or rebuilding
  • examine how Web site statistics can help you manage your site better
  • create a maintenance schedule for your Web site
  • learn how to improve (or prevent) search engine indexing
  • consider how Design & Usability (DU) Studies can help you create a better Web site
  • learn to recognize and overcome basic accessibility issues
  • consider the importance Web teams and analyze the structure of your own team

Participants in this session will evaluate their Web sites, create their own maintenance schedules, and consider methods for fine-tuning the Web sites they manage.
