Nicenet is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free services

ParaChat
Chat Rooms
ParaChat offers chat room services that are hosted on their server. They
supply the code to add to your Web page that will invoke the chat room through
a Java applet. You can choose the free chat service, supported by advertising,
or use one of the paid services for greater control over your chat room.

Discussion Groups
These free discussion groups include a bulletin board, live chat, file sharing,
a database, and a link library. Easy to create, but members must have a Yahoo
ID to get through the registration process.

Another discussion forum that must be installed locally. There is a free
version and a paid version; the paid version allows for greater customization
and security features.

This free service provides customizable interactive forms that do not require
cgi scripts to be run on your server.

Calendar
Another service for creating a dynamic online calendar that requires no HTML
experience or programming on the local server. It has a password protection
feature that allows you to set your calendar so that only those who have
authorization can view it. This service is also available in different languages.
Yahoo
Calendars - Canadian Version
Yahoo has a nice calendaring tool that lets you create daily, weekly,
or monthly calendars for private or public use. You will need to
have a Yahoo ID (free, but you must register) to use the calendar
service

A software for creating online quizzes and puzzles that is provided free
of charge to educational institutions if they agree to make the quizzes available

Quia
This free service is designed for educators to create a variety of activities,
quizzes, and learning games online. They are hosted at Quia and are available
to others who visit the Quia site. The service is supported by advertising,
but a subscription fee upgrades the service to include many extras and
customization options.

the Net with Kids
A free service that provides live feed items from Barbara Feldman that are
geared towards children. Choose from a daily factoid, game-of-the-day, or
surfing calendar to add some fun to your site for kids that is fresh every
day.
Moreover
A professional newsfeed service that allows non-profit sites to access a
limited section of their database for free. You can select specific categories
of news for your site, and some customization with keywords is provided
to narrow the type of news received. The free service is NOT available
to commercial organizations.
Magportal
This news service provides access to articles in magazines and journals,
and allows webmasters to set up a feed to specific topical categories
that captures links to current headlines and loads them into the local
site.
