BookstoreAbout San Felipé About the Baja |
Unfortunately there is not enough space to recognize each individual who has contributed to the Book Buddy and other related projects, but the directors, faculty and students of the San Felipe schools are extremely grateful for each bit of help. They have expressed their gratitude by inviting Kay and Bill to numerous graduation ceremonies and other school functions. They are aware that the generosity of numerous individuals has helped to provide the books and school supplies that are distributed to the schools. We would especially like to thank the following individuals and groups for their help: The Students at the following schools who said, "Maybe we can help!"
San Felipe Schools - The schools are trying hard to help themselves. Through money raised through snack sales, raffles, and other projects, they have provided much of the money and labor needed to build their libraries. Recently, several schools have been able to obtain Mexican government matching fund grants. In addition, several of the schools now raise money to purchase books for their libraries through the Scholastic Spanish Book Club. The children of the Los Gavilanes afternoon school designed bookmarks which were reproduced, laminated, and sold to help with their library. Club Las Amigas -- Each year this group of San Felipe women purchases needed items for the schools. This has included several large donations to various schools for their libraries. Bill's Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Buffet - Each month for five years Bill Gabbard held a breakfast buffet at Club de Pesca to benefit various school projects. Women of Unity - As a spin-off of Book Buddies, the Women of Unity of Carlsbad, CA decided to adopt a school. The Los Arcos school was chosen and the women earned money to help renovate the classrooms and help with the construction of the Library. The Carlsbad Women's Club also joined in these efforts. Tony Reyes Fishing Trip Raffle -- For two years Tony Reyes offered a six day fishing trip to the Midriff Islands aboard his flagship the José Andrés. The proceeds from this raffle was used to help with library construction. Marlia Family and Friends -- They have generously helped purchase books for the schools since the beginning of the project. Rotary Club Dinners -- Bill Gabbard cooked and the women of Club Las Amigas served several dinners to benefit Las Amigas, the Rotary Club, and the library construction fund. The Rotary Clubs of San Felipe, together with several Stateside clubs, are working on an international grant to help provide the tables, chairs, shelves, computers and other items that are needed in the new libraries. Other Rotary Clubs are invited to join in this effort. Karen and Vince Bradley, owners of Baja Java, San Felipe - Instead of purchasing Christmas presents, Karen and her family choose a charity to help. In 2001, their generous contribution helped to build the Los Arcos library. Escapees, Conexión Mexicana - The Escapees have donated to several school projects including the special school and the Los Arcos library. In addition their members have put in many hours helping to paint and clean the school in the Los Arcos area. Muller Family Foundation - We have been the grateful recipients of several donations for projects at various schools including the library project. Cynthia Beuselinck - Book Buddies is very grateful to Cynthia for providing this web site and her active promotion of its goals.
