BookstoreAbout San Felipe About the Baja |
When the first box of books was delivered, no one would have dreamed that six years later each of eleven elementary schools in San Felipe would have a mini-library. However, by U.S. school library standards, the number of books in each school is woefully small. In addition, the majority of books are paperback which means that the most popular books will have a very short lifetime and will soon need to be replaced. For The Elementary Schools and KindergartensFiction and non-fiction books in Spanish are needed on all levels. Bilingual books are also needed to encourage students who are beginning to learn English. Our Wish List can provide you with some of the titles that we are hoping to add to our collection. For Secondary Schools and AdultsBook Buddies has concentrated primarily on books for the elementary schools, but the secondary schools and high schools are also in great need of books. They, too, have very little outside of their textbooks for research or recreational reading. Adults, too, are eager for books, and when available, they are passed around from person to person. Computers, Software, and PrintersThese are needed on all levels. The San Felipe Rotary Club is working to put two computers each into the libraries at four of the poorest schools. More, of course, are needed in those schools as well as the other schools in San Felipe. Only two schools at present have adequate computer labs. If you can help in any way by providing donations of books, funds, or technology for San Felipe schools, please contact the project coordinator, Kay Gabbard. You can also purchase books from Amazon through our bookstore, either for yourself or from our wish list, and support Book Buddies from anywhere in the world! Project Coordinator: Kay Gabbard
