San Felipe Book Buddies:
How You can Help

By the end of 2002, Book Buddies had distributed 15,000 books to San Felipe schools.

You can be a Book Buddy too! To participate in any of the following ways, please contact Kay Gabbard

Buy books from our online Book Store

All the books you purchase from our Online Book Store help the Book Buddies. If you buy us something from our wish list, it is sent directly to us by Amazon.com as a gift from you. If you purchase something for yourself, a percentage of the price is sent to Book Buddies even though the price is exactly the same as if you bought directly from Amazon.

Individual donations of books or money

An average paperback book is about $5.00 U.S. so every little bit helps. One of the nice things about Book Buddies is that all the money donated goes directly into purchasing books for the children. The project is fully run by volunteers.

Library Book Sales

Periodically libraries have book sales. Those in predominately Spanish speaking areas might have books in Spanish to sell that could be sent down to Book Buddies in San Felipe.

Scholastic Book Club Points

Teachers who are eligible for Scholastic's Book Club Points can save their bonus points for the project. Book Buddies frequently order books from Scholastic and additional points would be welcomed.

Buddy Up!

Schools or libraries can make it a special project. Children can learn the value of sharing and learning with a global perspective. They can exchange pictures and letters while learning how they can help by being a Book Buddy themselves. At Scholastic book fairs, children can buy books in Spanish for students their age in San Felipe.

Get other organizations involved

Elicit support from schools or library associations or other organizations to which you belong. People in service organizations that have an international outreach program may be able to interest their group in the project.
